Felt Care & Maintenance

Maintain it - Clean it - Fix it

Important: Do not roll your KEEBMAT with the felt on the inside, as this will compress the felt and create creases or worsen existing ones. Always roll your mat with the felt facing outward!

Fixing Creases & a Curved Mat

Your Felt KEEBMAT may arrive with creases as a result of temperature and pressure changes during storage and air transportation. This is a typical and normal consequence for felt materials. Below, you will find simple instructions to help you in removing any creases or flattening a curved mat within a day, or even just a minute using an iron.

  1. Start by laying your felt KEEBMAT flat on a clean, smooth surface.
  2. For minor creases, use the heavy object method:
    1. Place a damp towel or cloth over the creased area.
    2. Set a heavy, flat object on top of the damp towel (e.g., a book, a stack of magazines).
    3. Leave the heavy object on the damp towel for several hours, or overnight.
    4. Remove the heavy object and damp towel, then gently smooth out the area with your hands.
  3. If the heavy object method doesn't work and the creases are severe or if the mat does not flatten, consider ironing:
    1. Set your iron to the lowest heat setting.
    2. Place a damp towel or cloth over the creased area.
    3. Gently iron over the damp towel, applying minimal pressure to prevent damage.
    4. Keep the iron moving continuously to avoid overheating any one spot.
    5. Check the progress frequently, and stop ironing once the creases are gone.
  4. Allow your KEEBMAT to air dry completely before using it again.

Note: Ironing a felt KEEBMAT carries a risk of damaging the material. Proceed with caution.

Proper Cleaning

  1. Begin by gently vacuuming your felt KEEBMAT on low with a brush attachment to remove any loose debris, such as dust or crumbs.
  2. Mix a mild detergent with warm water in a bowl or bucket.
  3. Dip a soft-bristled brush or sponge into the soapy water and very gently scrub the felt, working in small sections.
  4. Avoid using too much water, as this can damage the felt material and loosen up the adhesive between the felt and the foam rubber base.
  5. Once you have scrubbed the entire surface or the stained areas, rinse it thoroughly with lots of clean water.
  6. Use a clean towel to blot away excess moisture and allow to air dry completely before using it again.
  7. Avoid putting your felt KEEBMAT in a washing machine or dryer, as this can cause serious damage.

Maintenance Tips

To maintain your felt KEEBMAT and keep it looking its best, follow these simple steps:

  • Regular cleaning: Use a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment or a lint roller to remove dust, lint, and debris from your KEEBMATs surface regularly. This will help prevent dirt buildup and maintain the appearance of the felt material.
  • Spot cleaning: If you notice any stains or spills on your KEEBMAT, immediately clean the affected area with a damp cloth and a mild detergent. Gently dab the stain, avoiding rubbing or scrubbing, as this can damage the felt fibers. Rinse the area with a clean, damp cloth and let it thoroughly air dry.
  • Avoid exposure to direct sunlight: Prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause the colors of the felt to fade or bleach. Keep your KEEBMAT away from direct sunlight to preserve its appearance.
  • Store properly: If you need to store your KEEBMAT and it is a tube stored size (PLUS and 100%), roll it up with the felt side facing outwards to prevent creases. All sizes should be kept in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture.
  • Address creases: If your KEEBMAT develops creases, follow the instructions provided above.

By following these maintenance tips, you can keep your felt KEEBMAT looking clean and fresh for an extended period.
