THÖCKRINGS MANUAL

Thockrings are a great way to silence your Topre keyboard, but the simple-looking rings don't negate the time and effort it takes to put it all together! Unfortunately, there's no easy way around it unless you hire someone to assemble your new things for you. To get you started, we have collected a few tips for the confident do-it-yourselfers:

 

Measure your Workspace. Make sure you have enough space when disassembling your keyboard; otherwise, your desk may become cluttered and chaotic during the install which can lead to mistakes.

Look up how-to BEFORE starting. Decide whether it is a one or two-person job and don't risk damaging your Topre board. If you need help, call a friend on Discord or commission a professional.

Prepare, plan, & clear your desk. Make sure you have enough space when disassembling your keyboard; otherwise, screws or other small parts may fall down and disappear forever in the void under your desk.

Get the right tools. We do not provide tools, so you must supply your own screwdrivers, drills, hammers, and other necessary accessories to get the job done.

Separate and count your Thockrings. Taking the time to organize the required number of Thockrings will help the process go much more quickly. Additionally, you won't be left with a half-assembled board when you realize that something is missing.

Exercise patience. Realize that installing silencing rings takes time, so don't rush the process. Rushing will only cause you unnecessary stress and increase your chances of making a mistake. If you need to, take a break.

Check all fittings when finished. Ensure that all plastic parts are properly aligned and all screws are inserted and tightened. You don't want any gaps or a wobbly typing experience.

Don't drink alcohol. For all the obvious reasons, wait until you have finished assembling everything back together. Trust us, nobody will want to hear about your "TÖBRUH KAPUTTEN" accident.

ASSEMBLY GUIDE

 

 

The installation orientation of the Thockring depends on your preference. We install them with the PET side facing downward and the PORON™ side facing upward. For Topre boards that come with pre-installed silencing rings, they are usually installed with the PET side facing upward and the PORON™ side facing downward. However, we have not observed any noticeable difference.
